  • Decking Steps Repair

In September 2018 we had a new deck installed and the patio replaced.

The front edge of the steps on our deck were only held in place with double sided sticky tape. This was fine for a while but this tape doesn’t last forever.

Having removed all the tape I could see that the riser was also loose. The other steps were also loose. I removed all the edging strips and screwed the risers back into position then used Outdoor No More Nails to refix the front edges.

This is the bottom riser fixed.

I’m sure I had more photos but who knows where they went. Excess adhesive is still leaking from the bottom riser which I wiped off shortly after taking this photo. I didn’t take another photo once it was cleaned.
It’s not quite a perfect repair. There are three screws visible on the middle riser. The frame behind the step was a bit too low. I had to add a strip of wood to support the edge but it wasn’t suitable for screwing into.

Although I hadn’t realised it at the time I already had evidence of the sticky tape failing a few days earlier –

The corner edge piece had already dropped off weeks earlier and I hadn’t fixed it. Procrastination paying off for once!
